Arlington Travel Basketball ("ATB") is a member of the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League ("FCYBL"). Girls and boys residing in Arlington are eligble to play on a ATB team; non-Arlington residents are ineligible.

Welcome to the web page for the Arlington Travel Basketball (ATB) program. Arlington Travel Basketball organizes teams of Arlington boys in grades 4th through 8th grade and girls in grades 4th through 9th grade that compete in the competitive Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) against "select" teams from other areas in Northern Virginia.

The FCYBL league is run during the traditional winter basketball season. Practices start in October, and games are played from December through February.


Tryouts for Arlington Travel Basketball teams are open to all Arlington boys and girls and are held every year at the beginning of October.

Arlington Travel Basketball is separate from the county-run "house league," which is an inter-Arlington league that does not hold any tryouts. For more information on Arlington house league basketball, click here.

 
FCYBL Council Passes Two Rule Changes; All Teams Now Grade Based

On April 6, 2011, the FCYBL Council approved two changes to the FCYBL Rules:

Change to Grade-Based Teams
By a vote of 13-4, the Council changed the rules for team formation to a grade-based system from an age-based system. 

Starting with the 2011-2012 season, teams will be formed based on the grades that players are in for such season; there are very limited age restrictions, but generally teams will be formed based on what grade the player is in for that season.

This replaces the old age-based team formation rules whereby a player was eligible for a team based upon his/her age on September 30 of each year, with each team being allowed two "grade exceptions."  

6th Grade Boys to Use 28.5 Inch Basketball
In a unanimous 17-0 vote, starting with the 2011-2012 season, 6th grade boys will use a 28.5 inch basketball for league play.  The 28.5 inch basketball has been used in 5th grade FCYBL boys' play for quite a while.  The 29.5 inch regulation men's basketball will be used for boys' Grades 7 and 8 league action.

Girls will continue to use the 28.5 inch basketball in all grades for FCYBL play.

The rules section of the FCYBL website has been updated to reflect these changes.

ATB Website Integrated with FCYBL Website for Scores/Standings

Part of the benefit of our ATB website is that it is fully integrated with the FCYBL website for every teams schedule, scores and standings for the regular and post-season!!! 

This means that once schedules and game results are posted on the FCYBL website, they will automatically be posted to your team’s webpage on this ATB website.

All of the ATB teams for the past two seasons are included on this website and you can select any team from the 2009-2010 season or the 2010-2011 season and see game-by-game results and standings for the regular and post-season.  Click on “Team Website” at the top of any page to find all the ATB team action from the prior two seasons.

Arlington Goes 3-3 in Title Games on Championship Saturday

Congratulations to the following teams that won championships in FCYBL championship games on Saturday, March 5:
  • B10-1 (Lowen) defeated McLean 41-40 after trailing at the half 8-23. 
  • B11-1 (Tardy) defeated Springfield 54-40
  • B12-1 (Honeycutt) defeated Chantilly 54-53 on a 3-point buzzer beater

With these three wins, Arlington went 3-3 on the day, winning FCYBL championships in three of the four boys' division 1 title games.

Congratulations Arlington!!
